Cassiopee, sharing science
Tixier, Alain

,
1996
The Cassiopee mission, which Claudie Andre-Deshays takes part in here, went off from August 17 to September 2, 1996, and was carried out on board the Russian MIR space station. Cassiopee is the seventh manned space flight organised by CNES. It is a logical continuation of earlier missions, with a new programme of experiments devised by the French scientific community. They explored the effects of microgravity in the fields of life sciences and physical sciences, and there is also a technological part. Claudie Andre-Deshays, a rheumatologist and research scientist, is the first French woman who flew in space. The Cassiopee crew made up of Commander Valery Korzun, flight engineer Alexander Kaliery and the scientist-cosmonaut Claudie Andre-Deshays, joined Youri Oussatchov and the American Shannon Lucid, who have been on the MIR station for the last six months.
